A contributor to the website Pittsburgh 2050 submitted this vision (found in TEQ magazine) for a comprehensive subway system (h/t Costa):
UPDATE: We have tracked down the mystery artist. His name is Ed Shin and you can check out the original graphic at Ed's portfolio website.

i think you add more info about it.
looks great...on a flat surface...like London or DC...somebody needs to add in elevations
Sure, there will be elevation and other engineering challenges as with every city, but nothing that can't be overcome. Pittsburgh used to be a streetcar city after all. This graphic gets the conversation started on transportation priorities, like an Oakland-Downtown-Airport rail link.
conversation starting is great. but this graphic is not going to get any traction with the city council right now thanks to great organizations like FACT who are trying to entirely remove the already limited funding that the bus system gets.
i fear that the city is regressing, rather than progressing, on the public transit from as the city population shrinks and taxes are being pressured.
Drew - are you aware of the CityLive regional transporatation initiative? Check out the wiki and if you have time make sure to register and contribute. The final plan will be presented to the media and local officials in about 2 to 3 months from now.
chris, thanks for the tip. i was not aware of CityLive. having just moved here recently, i'm still getting acquainted with the city.
